Speaking at the Greek Cypriot Parliament, Kombos emphasized the importance of strengthening defense capabilities as a priority. He noted, “Transitioning from declaration to implementation is significant. Certain steps must be taken for execution.”

Kombos highlighted the need to align defense materials, training, and infrastructure with NATO countries, especially given South Cyprus’ collaborations with these states. He also underlined the necessity of addressing geopolitical factors impacting South Cyprus’ supply chains.

Regarding NATO membership, Kombos remarked, “Discussing the outcome prematurely has no merit. When the time is right, the debate will occur.” He reiterated that President Nikos Christodoulides’ earlier statements on NATO membership had been misinterpreted, asserting that public discourse on the topic is not currently required.

On another note, Kombos expressed South Cyprus’ intention to provide assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces, emphasizing the importance of a ceasefire in Lebanon.

He also announced plans for a working breakfast with the UK Foreign Secretary on December 17, coinciding with a strategic dialogue between South Cyprus and the United Kingdom.
