Erhürman Criticizes Tatar: "A Narrow Mindset"

In response to Tatar's comment that "broadcasting our issues to the world will not gain us anything," Erhürman described this perspective as a "Sarayönü mentality" and a "narrow mindset" that isolates the Turkish Cypriot community.

In a statement shared on his social media account, Erhürman said:
"I have always said this: there is a mindset that sees the world as limited to Sarayönü. In this era of communication, they believe that if we say nothing to anyone, no one will hear us. Worse still, they think that if no one hears, the problem will cease to exist. This Sarayönü mentality… this 'whistle mentality'… is an outdated, narrow mindset that is unworthy of this era and seeks only to sever our people from the world."

Erhürman's remarks came after Tatar’s appearance on Kıbrıs Postası TV, where the president criticized the opposition, stating, "We gain nothing by broadcasting our problems to the world every day." Tatar’s comments were aimed at opposition figures who, he claimed, were undermining the country by excessively highlighting its internal challenges on international platforms.

Erhürman’s sharp retort underscores the ongoing political divide in the TRNC, with the opposition accusing the presidency of adopting insular policies that hinder international engagement and progress.
