Erhürman: "President Continually Adopts Divisive Roles"
CTP Leader Tufan Erhürman criticized the President Tatar for consistently adopting divisive stances during a speech in the Assembly, where the Presidency’s budget was discussed. He evaluated the responsibilities of the presidency and the extent to which they have been fulfilled.
Erhürman accused the President of interfering in domestic matters and abandoning the principle of neutrality, frequently targeting the opposition in public statements. Referring to the term “Cypriot” enshrined in the Constitution, Erhürman stated that the President appears to have an issue with this concept.
Highlighting the Ali Kişmir case, Erhürman said the prevailing atmosphere of pressure should be opposed by the Presidency, yet it has remained silent. He also criticized the President for lacking focus and failing to prioritize efforts to engage the Turkish Cypriot community with the world.
Erhürman expressed concern over deteriorating relations with the EU, stating that progress on the Cyprus issue and international relations has regressed over the past four years. He further asserted that unresolved issues now pose risks to property and personal security, escalating tensions and undermining peace.
Concluding his remarks, Erhürman said the budget does not compensate for the missed opportunities and setbacks under the Presidency’s tenure, leaving the Turkish Cypriot community at a significant loss.
