UK: Golan Heights Remains Occupied, We Do Not Recognize Israeli Annexation

The UK Foreign Ministry has stated that it does not recognize Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights, following the Israeli military's seizure of a buffer zone in the region.

In a written response to an inquiry by an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterated the UK’s position, saying, "Our position is clear: the Golan Heights is occupied territory, and we do not recognize Israel's annexation of the area."
The spokesperson added that Israel had explicitly stated that its presence in the buffer zone of the Golan Heights was for defense purposes, limited and temporary. "We expect Israel to adhere to this commitment," the spokesperson said.
The UK also called on Israel and all parties involved to comply with their obligations under international law regarding peace, stability, and security.
Additionally, the statement noted that UK Foreign Minister David Lammy had discussed the issue with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, on the previous day, reaffirming the UK's stance on the Golan Heights as occupied territory and reiterating that Israel's annexation is not recognized.
