Toros: "There Can Be No Civilization Without Freedom of Thought and Expression"
Speaking during the debate on the Attorney General’s Office budget, CTP MP Fikri Toros emphasized that freedom of thought and expression is essential for civilization. The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP addressed concerns over restrictions on fundamental rights, press freedom, and attempts to intimidate journalists.
Toros criticized actions by the Attorney General’s Office, stating, “Although our constitution emphasizes the value of freedom of expression, the Attorney General prosecutes journalists for thinking, writing, and speaking freely.” He called for the withdrawal of such cases.
Accusing the government of abusing its authority to silence dissenting voices, Toros underlined that societies lacking freedom of thought and expression cannot achieve civilization.
The Parliament unanimously approved the 307.4 million TL budget for the Attorney General’s Office.
