Three Siblings and Their Accomplice Arrested for Shoplifting in Nicosia
Three siblings, Seher Kaya, Şindar Kaya, and Sevda Kaya, along with their accomplice Esra Sürücü, were arrested for shoplifting in multiple stores in Nicosia and brought before the court yesterday. Police officer Şefik Karabardak presented the facts during the court session.
The police reported that on December 12, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM, the suspects stole a total of 13 items of women's clothing and 4 pairs of women's shoes, valued at 6,800 TL, from a store located on Mehmet Akif Avenue in Nicosia.
The police stated that the suspects were arrested the same day under a warrant obtained from the Nicosia District Court. During the arrest, the police seized 2,740 euros, 835 British pounds, and 1,000 US dollars from the suspects.
Seher Kaya confessed orally to the police that they had committed several thefts before, and that Esra Sürücü was involved in these crimes. Police conducted a search at the Kaya siblings' residence, where they found approximately 300 items of women's clothing and accessories, along with 4 pairs of shoes, which are believed to have been stolen from the same store and others. These items were confiscated as evidence.
Esra Sürücü was also apprehended in Nicosia, and during a search of her home, further women's clothing and accessories were discovered.
The police mentioned that the investigation is still in its early stages, with more surveillance footage to be reviewed and additional statements to be taken. They noted that the number of victims might increase due to the seized items, and the whereabouts of the money found are also under investigation. The police requested an extension for further investigation.
During the court session, Sürücü denied involvement in the crime and claimed that Seher Kaya had given her the items found in her home.
Judge Nuray Necdet, after evaluating the evidence, ordered the suspects to remain in custody for three more days.
