Northern Cyprus has recorded significant growth in tourism for the January-October period of 2024, with visitor numbers surpassing 1.8 million. While Turkish citizens continue to dominate as the largest group of tourists, notable increases in arrivals from several European countries have contributed to the sector's growth.

Visitor Numbers Rise by 18.6%

According to data from the Police General Directorate and tourism accommodation statistics, tourist arrivals in Northern Cyprus increased by 18.6% compared to the same period in 2023.

Turkey Leads the Market

Visitors from Turkey accounted for the majority of arrivals, marking a 22.3% increase. This underscores Turkey’s position as the primary source market for Northern Cyprus tourism.

Sharp Growth in European Markets

Northern Cyprus also saw remarkable growth in tourist numbers from specific European countries:

  • Norway: Overnight stays surged by 502.4%.
  • Belgium: Overnight stays increased by 443.8%.

These trends reflect a diversification of Northern Cyprus’ tourism market.

Declines in Some Markets

Conversely, arrivals from certain countries declined:

  • United States: Down by 22.5%.
  • Israel: Down by 18.3%.

Crossings from Southern Cyprus Drop

While overall crossings through land checkpoints remained stable, crossings from Southern Cyprus to the north decreased by 5.8%.
