Stewart: No Date Set Yet for Expanded Meeting
Colin Stewart, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, stated after his meeting with President Ersin Tatar that no date has been set yet for the expanded meeting.
Stewart said that he would brief the UN Security Council in January and described his meeting with Tatar as "very constructive."
He noted that the discussion also covered potential progress regarding new crossing points, adding that Tatar had emphasized the importance of resolving the Pile-Yiğitler road issue for the Turkish Cypriot side, which Stewart acknowledged as significant.
Describing the conversation as constructive, Stewart expressed that he felt optimistic by the end of the day. He stated, "This, whether regarding crossing points, the Pile road, or the next leaders’ meeting, I believe is the best opportunity for positive movement since 2017 in matters that concern people."
Stewart also confirmed that no date had been set for the expanded meeting yet, and emphasized that they wished to continue detailed discussions to ensure the meeting takes place under more favorable conditions.
