Court Denies Bail to German Woman in Cyprus Land Appropriation Case
Nicosia Criminal Court has rejected a bail application from a 49-year-old German woman accused of illegally acquiring Greek-Cypriot land in the TRNC.
Her lawyer, Sotiris Argyrou, argued in Nicosia Criminal Court that translation issues had hampered his client’s defence and that prison overcrowding amounted to inhumane treatment, citing a report by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT).
The court, presided over by Judge Nikolas Georgiadis, dismissed the arguments, stating there were no grounds to justify releasing her on bail. The court also provided guidance on securing adequate translation services for future proceedings.
The trial is scheduled to begin on March 5, 2025.
