Dogen, who was detained in connection with the forged document case at Ercan Airport, appeared in court yesterday morning. Police Sergeant Hüseyin Ergüleç presented the details of the case before the judge.

According to the police, on May 1, 2009, Dogen allegedly attempted to smuggle Gilgil and Şancı to the United Kingdom by providing forged TRNC and Republic of Cyprus identity cards to airline check-in staff.

The authorities stated that Dogen had changed his surname, which delayed his identification, but an arrest warrant was later issued against him. The police had flagged his name for detention upon arrival.

Dogen was apprehended on March 13, 2025, when he attempted to enter the TRNC. In his statement, he claimed that he had changed his surname simply because he did not like it.

COURT ORDERS THREE-DAY DETENTION

The police noted that Gilgil and Şancı had previously been tried, convicted, and deported following the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities requesting Dogen’s detention for further inquiries.

Judge Nuray Necdet evaluated the testimony and ordered that the suspect be held in custody for three days.
