Historic Call from Turkish Cypriot Youth Organizations: Ready for Cooperation Talks on the Youth Technical Committee!

A coalition of 16 Turkish Cypriot youth organizations and political party youth branches has issued a historic call regarding the Bi-Communal Youth Technical Committee, which was agreed upon at the Geneva summit.

The group emphasized the importance of active youth participation in the process and declared their readiness to engage in cooperation talks under the leadership of the Youth Federation and its affiliated organizations.
Following the Geneva summit held on March 17-18, Turkish Cypriot youth organizations and political party youth branches expressed their satisfaction with the establishment of the Bi-Communal Youth Technical Committee, which was agreed upon by President Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides.
"The Committee Must Be Sustainable and Competent"
In a joint statement issued by Youth Federation President Mustafa Özbilgehan, the organizations stressed that youth-related issues can only be addressed effectively with the direct involvement and active participation of youth organizations. The statement underlined that Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot youth organizations, along with minority representatives, must play a decisive role in the creation and management of the committee.
"A sustainable and effective structure capable of addressing youth issues can only be achieved through the direct involvement of youth organizations," the statement read. The group called for the process to be led by the Youth Federation, ensuring active participation from youth organizations on both sides.
Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot Youth Groups Set for Cooperation Talks
The Youth Federation, along with affiliated Turkish Cypriot youth organizations and political party youth branches—including the Republican Turkish Party Youth Organization, Democratic Party Youth Branch, People's Party Youth Organization, National Unity Party Youth Branch, Rebirth Party Youth Branch, Communal Democracy Party Youth Organization, and Nationalist Democracy Party Youth Branch—released a joint statement reiterating their commitment to the initiative.
"We are ready to engage in cooperation talks with our Greek Cypriot counterpart youth organizations and contribute to joint efforts," the statement declared.
The organizations expressed full confidence that this initiative would foster stronger dialogue and cooperation between young people on the island. They reaffirmed their commitment to actively participating in every stage of the process and assuming responsibility in ensuring its success.
