Eight More Days for Drug Suspects

Raymond Tonwe and Emenuel Ekene, who attempted to evade police by throwing half a kilogram of drugs from their vehicle on the Nicosia-Famagusta highway, will remain in custody for an additional eight days. The suspects, who were stopped by police and fled the scene, were brought before the court again yesterday.

During the court session, Police Officer Ozan Özder presented the details of the case.
High-Speed Chase and Drug Disposal
According to the police statement, on March 16, 2025, at approximately 11:45 PM, a vehicle driving erratically on the Nicosia-Famagusta highway was stopped by officers from the Demirhan Police Station. At that moment, a male passenger threw a bag approximately 1.5 meters away from the vehicle before fleeing on foot.
Police seized the bag as evidence and arrested the driver, Emenuel Ekene. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain approximately 500 grams of a substance believed to be drugs. Ekene was subsequently brought before the court and initially remanded in custody for three days. Meanwhile, the fleeing suspect, Raymond Tonwe, was later apprehended in Nicosia.
Ongoing Investigation
Officer Özder stated that the seized drugs have been sent for analysis, with over 20 security camera recordings being reviewed. Authorities have interrogated 12 individuals, taken statements from two witnesses, and are now analyzing fingerprints found on the drug package. Investigators also plan to examine the suspects' mobile phones as part of the inquiry.
Citing the need for further evidence collection and analysis, the police requested an extension of the suspects' detention. After reviewing the testimony, Judge Nuray Necdet ruled that both suspects will remain in custody for an additional eight days.
