Protest Against Stone Quarries to Be Held Tomorrow

The mukhtars of Şirinevler, Akçiçek, Alemdağ, and Kozanköy will stage a protest tomorrow at 10:00 AM, blocking roads to demand the closure of stone quarries in the area. Citing uncontrolled explosions and increased truck traffic, which have caused cracks in homes and covered villages in dust, the local leaders are calling for urgent action.

In a joint statement, Şirinevler Mukhtar Serkan Pilli, Kozanköy Mukhtar Serkan Alkanat, Akçiçek Mukhtar Ali Kinsiz, and Alemdağ Mukhtar Ömer Tabur highlighted the severe impact of quarry operations on their villages.

The statement noted that while only one quarry was originally permitted in Akçiçek, the number has since grown to three, with reports suggesting that another permit has been granted.

The uncontrolled blasting has led to structural damage in homes, while the dust from both explosions and truck movements has blanketed the villages. Additionally, the increase in truck traffic—especially through village roads where such transit is prohibited—has caused road collapses and a rise in health issues, particularly among children and the elderly.

The protest, set to take place on Dağaşan Avenue and connecting roads, aims to push authorities to take immediate measures against the environmental and structural damage caused by the quarries.
