Ekrem İmamoğlu Removed from Office
Turkey’s Ministry of Interior has announced that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan have been removed from office.
In the statement issued by the Interior Ministry, it was recalled that İmamoğlu was arrested by the decision of Istanbul’s 10th Criminal Court of Peace on charges of "illegally recording personal data," "accepting bribes," "rigging public tenders," and "forming a criminal organization to commit offenses."
The statement further emphasized that, in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, he has been temporarily removed from his position as a precautionary measure by the Ministry of Interior.
