Hasipoğlu: "The Mixed Voting System is Not Related to Early Elections"

UBP Secretary General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu evaluated the agenda on BRT Live Broadcast. He discussed the mixed voting system, recalling that they initiated the process in 2023.

Hasipoğlu said, "We stated that we would implement this in 2023. We began working on it since that day, and it has now passed through the parliamentary committee. It will come to the general assembly in the coming days. Some criticisms have been raised, suggesting that the government is pushing it through urgently because of an early election. This has nothing to do with early elections. The only upcoming election is the presidential election. The abolition of the mixed voting system has now become a necessity."
Regarding the Cyprus Summit held in Geneva, Hasipoğlu pointed out that the Greek side persistently tried to keep the idea of federation on the table, while the Turkish side’s firm stance has led to a further distancing from the federal process.
Hasipoğlu continued, “We will not sit at the table for a comprehensive solution without accepting our sovereign equality and equal international status. We have never compromised on this, and we will not. A new page has now been opened, and there is no federation on this page. What we have achieved here is the beginning of consensus on cooperation. We will never avoid the table. We will continue cooperating in the interest of our people. The UN is also determined in this regard. In this respect, the Geneva Summit was a good starting point.”
