Aysal Criticizes Exemption of Presidential Complex from Inspections

President of the Union of Turkish Cypriot Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB), Seran Aysal, has strongly criticized the decision to exempt the Presidential Complex buildings from inspections, calling it a disregard for the state and society.

KTMMOB condemned the approval of the "Protocol on the Construction of Presidential Complex Buildings between the TRNC Government and the Turkish Government", which was passed by a parliamentary majority on March 24, 2025. The union also denounced the subsequent decision to grant the complex exemption from regulatory oversight.
In a statement signed by KTMMOB President Seran Aysal, the government was accused of failing to uphold its responsibility to ensure compliance with legal procedures. The statement warned that opting for an unregulated process would pave the way for "irregularities, corruption, bribery, personal gain, professional misconduct, and illegality."
Emphasizing that regulatory oversight is a key element of developed states and societies, the KTMMOB warned that exemption from inspections would push the Turkish Cypriot community toward underdevelopment and destruction.
Reaffirming its commitment to defending the interests of the Turkish Cypriot community, the union concluded its statement with a sharp rebuke to the government:
"Disregarding regulations means denying one's own existence and ignoring both the State and Society!"
