Çeler: Kıb-Tek Must Be Immediately Made Autonomous

Zeki Çeler, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP), emphasized that the fate of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) should not be left to the whims of any individual. He called for the immediate autonomy of the electricity authority, pointing out that it is crucial for the institution's future to be protected from political maneuvering.

In a written statement, Çeler stressed that Kıb-Tek is too important to be sacrificed for daily political calculations and that its future cannot be constrained by any political figure, even the Prime Minister. He further stated that it should be recognized by all that the institution must not fall victim to political games.
Reminding everyone of a truth they had previously raised, Çeler said, "The Electricity Authority must be immediately made autonomous. The damage caused by steps taken with the involvement of private companies and political concerns is immense. The institution must be managed by qualified experts, free from political influence, and with the awareness of providing public service."
"Everyone Must Support EL-SEN's Struggle"
Çeler criticized the management of the institution, which has been appointed without regard for professional qualifications or political neutrality. He argued that the incompetence and poor management have caused endless power cuts and high electricity bills, which have burdened the public.
He stated that at this point, it is absolutely essential for everyone to support EL-SEN’s long-standing struggle for the autonomy of Kıb-Tek. "With a budget close to 100 million dollars a month, Kıb-Tek must be managed on a scientific basis, as it plays a strategically crucial role in society," he added.
Finally, Çeler called on all parties in the Parliament to take action, urging the government and opposition parties to bring the long-neglected Autonomy Law to the agenda in the General Assembly as soon as possible.
