The driver, Ekene, was arrested after the drugs were thrown from the vehicle, and he was later brought to court where the decision was made to send him to prison for a period not exceeding two months.

In court, the police officer presented the facts, stating that the suspect had been arrested for drug-related offenses committed on November 18-24 and March 16. The police explained that on March 16, 2025, at around 11:45 PM, a vehicle, which was seen swerving along the Lefkoşa-Famagusta road, was stopped by the Demirhan Police Station team. At that moment, a man sitting in the passenger seat threw a bag containing drugs about one and a half meters away from the vehicle and ran away.

The police confirmed that the bag was collected as evidence, and the driver, Emenuel Ekene, was arrested. Upon searching the bag, 491 grams of cannabis was found, which was also collected as evidence. The police further stated that Ekene had been brought to court twice, and during the investigation, his phone contained photos of drugs.

According to the police, the suspect admitted during questioning that the photos depicted a total of one and a half kilograms of drugs, which he had obtained on November 18 and 24, 2024, in 750-gram quantities, and sold to several individuals.

The police also revealed that the suspect was friends with the individual who threw the drugs and that they had been using drugs together, selling some and making money.

Ekene faces seven separate charges, including possession of 491 grams of drugs and the sale, possession, and transfer of one and a half kilograms of drugs. However, he denied the charges.

Despite being in the country as a student, the police pointed out that the crimes committed fell under the jurisdiction of the heavy criminal court, and they requested his detention during the trial.

Judge Nuray Necdet, after evaluating the evidence, ordered that Ekene be sent to prison for a period not exceeding two months.
