Conditional Releases Conducted Without Deputy Director or Supervisor at Central Prison

According to the Conditional Release Regulation, in addition to the prison director’s signature, the presence of a deputy director or a supervisor is required for the process to be legally valid. However, these key positions remain vacant, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the releases.

Sources indicate that reports required for the conditional release process have been signed by personnel lacking the necessary authority. Legal experts warn that if the issue is brought before the courts, the conditional releases could be overturned.

Speaking to Kıbrıs Postası, officials dismissed allegations of irregularities, stating that the regulation was applied properly, with the prison director, a prosecutor, and a representative from the Police General Directorate overseeing the process. They also confirmed that the vacant positions are expected to be filled through internal recruitment.
