KTÖS and KTOEÖS to Hold Protest in Nicosia with Political and Civil Support

The Cyprus Turkish Teachers' Union (KTÖS) and the Cyprus Turkish Secondary School Teachers' Union (KTOEÖS), with support from various political parties and civil society organizations, will hold a protest on Tuesday, April 8, in the capital, Nicosia.

Protesters will gather at 6:00 PM at the Citroen Lights area in Dereboyu and march towards the Martyrs' Monument. The demonstration was announced during a press conference at the KTOEÖS General Headquarters, attended by union representatives.

The political parties and organizations supporting the protest include:

CTP, TDP, BKP, YKP, Independence Path, Left Movement, Cyprus Turkish Doctors' Union, Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Doctors, KTMMOB, Cyprus Artists and Writers Union, Cyprus Turkish Dentists' Association, Cyprus Turkish Physicians' Union, KTAMS, HÜR-İŞ, TÜRK-SEN, KAMUSEN, Arif Hasan Tahsin Foundation, Baraka Cultural Center, Peace Association, Peace and Democracy Initiative, BASIN-SEN, BES, Biologists Association, ÇAĞ-SEN, DAU-BİRSEN, DAÜ-SEN, DEV-İŞ, EL-SEN, GÜÇ-SEN, HAKSEN, Air Traffic Controllers' Union, Women's Education Collective, Cyprus Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association, KİEF, KKTC Alevi Culture Center, KOOP-SEN, MALİYE-SEN, VERGİ-SEN, and the Patriotic Cyprus Movement.

Protest: Inviting the Public to Join the March

KTOEÖS President Selma Eylem was the first to speak at the press conference. Eylem argued that the aim of the political, economic, and cultural policies imposed on the Turkish Cypriots is to sever their connection to their identity and transform them into a dependent and controllable structure. She also pointed out that this goal is being supported through interventions in the education system.
