Hasan Tosunoğlu Resigns from Parliament Amid Immunity Debate

Hasan Tosunoğlu has resigned from his position as a member of parliament following a request to lift his parliamentary immunity over allegations related to his tenure as Chairman of the Board of the Cooperative Central Bank.

According to information obtained by Kıbrıs Postası, the request was made in order to investigate certain claims dating back to his time at the bank.
In response to these developments, Tosunoğlu submitted his resignation letter to the Presidency of the Republic’s Assembly last Friday. The resignation will become official once the necessary procedures are completed in Parliament.
Meanwhile, the process regarding the removal of Tosunoğlu’s parliamentary immunity will be addressed by the Assembly’s Committee on Legal, Political and Foreign Affairs. The committee will assess the content of the allegations and the request for lifting immunity, and will prepare a report to be submitted to the General Assembly.
No official statement has yet been issued by Tosunoğlu regarding the matter.
