LTB Launches Night-Time Public Transportation Initiative

The Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) is preparing to introduce a night-time public transportation service in response to increasing traffic problems. The service is planned to be launched in May with a three-month trial period.

In a statement on social media, LTB President Mehmet Harmancı highlighted that the traffic issue has become a deep social problem that cannot be solved merely with fines. He stated, "The rising traffic fines and the daily fear of losing loved ones have created the necessity to find alternative solutions."
Following discussions with companies holding public transport permits for intra-city services, LTB has reached a preliminary agreement to establish a transport network that will operate during the night hours, particularly along routes with heavy service sector activity.
The municipality plans to rent two vehicles each evening from 7:00 PM to 12:30 AM to create an efficient transportation network. The initiative aims to provide a safe transportation alternative and is expected to begin in May as part of a three-month trial period.
Harmancı also mentioned that this week, they will meet with representatives from the service sector to present the work of the traffic commission and share further details of the project.
