Parliament Faces Quorum Crisis: Three MPs Absent Without Permission, General Assembly Fails to Convene

The General Assembly of the TRNC was unable to convene today due to the lack of a sufficient quorum.

Three Members of Parliament, Hasan Taçoy, Ali Pilli, and Hasan Tosunoğlu, were expected to attend but did not show up. Despite having no valid leave of absence, their absence caused a quorum crisis in Parliament.
On the other hand, Serhat Akpınar was absent as he had official leave.
According to the parliamentary rules of procedure, a minimum number of MPs must be present for a General Assembly meeting to begin. Since the required quorum was not met during today’s roll call, the General Assembly’s proceedings were postponed.
The unexcused absence of the MPs not only resulted in the cancellation of today’s meeting but also sparked renewed discussions about a lack of confidence in the functioning of Parliament among the public.
It remains to be seen how the Parliament Presidency will address the issue of MPs who failed to attend the roll call in the coming days.
