Harmancı: Disciplinary Regulation Farce Signals a New Phase of Social Engineering

Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı expressed his support for tonight’s protest organized by teachers’ unions and civil society groups, stating that “the button has been pushed for a new phase of social engineering through the farce of the disciplinary regulation.”

The protest, scheduled for 6:00 PM in Nicosia, is expected to draw participation from around 40 organizations opposing perceived interventions in secular education and broader societal manipulation.
In a statement shared on social media, Harmancı warned against what he described as a dangerous new stage of social engineering. He criticized certain groups in Turkey for repeatedly attempting to label people as “insufficient Turks,” “insufficient Muslims,” or “insufficient Nationalists.” He described these actions as a significant threat to the identity and values of people who have existed for centuries with their own sense of self.
Harmancı highlighted that from the British colonial era to the post-1974 period, the people have fought for their freedom. While affirming that Turkey remains a “brotherly country” with shared language, religion, and emotional ties, he warned that recent efforts to incite nationalism and fabricate artificial crises are on the rise.
“We are not on anyone’s radar; we must cut our own umbilical cord,” Harmancı stated. “Even though doing the right thing under current circumstances is difficult, we must not abandon what is right.” He added that today’s protest marks the beginning of a broader struggle against these imposed agendas.
