50 Accidents Recorded in a Week

A total of 50 traffic accidents occurred across the TRNC between March 31 and April 6, resulting in 15 injuries and over 2 million TL in damages, while 178 vehicles were banned from traffic during the same period.

According to the Police Press Office, 41 of the incidents involved property damage, and 9 resulted in injuries, with an estimated total of 2,025,080 TL in financial loss.
The causes of the accidents included speeding (17 cases), careless driving (10), failing to stop at junctions (9), and tailgating (8). Regionally, 17 accidents occurred in Nicosia, 12 in Famagusta, 18 in Kyrenia, 2 in Güzelyurt, and 1 in İskele. Authorities stated that 6 accidents were due to other reasons.
Over 2,500 Drivers Reported
During the same week, police carried out inspections on 14,698 drivers, issuing reports for 2,560 of them. In addition to 178 vehicles being banned from traffic, 15 drivers were arrested.
Speeding was the most frequent offense, with 946 drivers penalized—768 caught through standard enforcement and 178 via mobile radar units.
62 Drivers Caught Driving Under the Influence
Among the violations, 22 drivers were cited for dangerous driving, 29 for careless driving, and 179 were found to be operating without a valid road tax certificate. Additionally, 18 drivers were unlicensed, and 62 were found driving under the influence of alcohol.
