Güner Ersen: Cyprus Belongs to Us, Let's Shout It Together

Güner Ersen, the member of the Central Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party (TDP), made an emotional social media post drawing attention to Cyprus's multicultural heritage and the mutual respect for different beliefs.

Ersen reminded that many mosques in Cyprus were originally built as churches, stating, “We have beautiful mosques, they were built as churches, but since we are Muslim, we use them as mosques.” He pointed out the island's rich, multicultural history and how different faiths coexist in harmony.
He also recalled the tradition in Nicosia during Ramadan, where cannons were fired, followed by a moment of silence as everyone said, “May Allah accept [our fasts].” Ersen described the coexistence within his family, saying, "My mother fasted, my father drank his alcohol when the table was set. No one questioned anyone’s faith in our house, our city, our Cyprus!”
Ersen concluded his post with the words, "Cyprus is ours, my friends, either we shout this together today, or we’ll shout it! We are all beautiful together, we missed it, let’s go!”
