Hunger Threshold Announced as 28,324 TL

The hunger threshold has been announced as 28,324 TL. Güven Bengihan, President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Servants Union (KTAMS), stated, "The announced figures do not reflect the real cost of living."

KTAMS revealed that as of March 31, the hunger threshold for a four-person family is 28,324 TL.
In his statement, Bengihan outlined the mandatory food expenditure for a healthy diet: for an adult woman, the daily cost is 242.37 TL (7,271.1 TL per month); for an adult man, the daily cost is 252.97 TL (7,589.1 TL per month); for a 15-19-year-old child, the daily cost is 268.94 TL (8,068.2 TL per month); and for a 4-6-year-old child, the daily cost is 179.85 TL (5,395.5 TL per month).
The monthly food expenditure required for a four-person family to eat healthily, balanced, and sufficiently (hunger threshold) was calculated at 28,324 TL. Bengihan also referred to the inflation and cost of living rates provided by the Statistics Department.
According to official figures, the inflation rate for March was 4.28%, and the total cost of living increase for the first three months (January-February-March) was 8.67%. Bengihan pointed out, "As we have repeatedly stated, the Consumer Price Index basket used by the Statistics Department with a base year of 2015=100 has lost its relevance, and therefore, the announced figures do not reflect the real cost of living."
Bengihan explained that the hunger threshold was calculated using the food pattern needed for a four-person family to eat healthily, which they obtained from the Ministry of Health's inpatient services. They averaged the prices of the items in this food pattern sent by the Statistics Department.
