Unions to Launch Protests Against Disciplinary Regulation on April 14

Unions announced they will launch a wave of protests starting Monday, April 14, in opposition to recent amendments to the Disciplinary Regulation.

In a joint statement issued by the Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS), they expressed gratitude to the tens of thousands who joined the April 8 demonstration.
The unions emphasized that the public took to the streets demanding an education system rooted in the Constitution, the National Education Law, and Atatürk’s principles and reforms.
The statement declared, “Beginning Monday, April 14, 2025, we will ignite the fire of resistance. Until the Cabinet or government withdraws the changes to the Disciplinary Regulation—changes that represent a reactionary blow to education—this fire will not be extinguished. We will continue our struggle, including the possibility of a general strike.”
The unions affirmed that protests will continue until the changes are reversed and warned that the Ministry of Education and the government will be held accountable for any pressure or threats directed at teachers.
