Turkish MP Undergoes Emergency Heart Surgery, Condition Critical

Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Istanbul MP for the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), was hospitalized in Istanbul after suffering a serious heart condition caused by an aortic dissection.

Önder underwent a complex surgery that lasted nearly 12 hours, according to a statement released by the hospital. “The heart is functioning well, but the patient remains in intensive care with his condition still critical,” the hospital noted.
DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan provided an update on Önder’s health, confirming the seriousness of the situation. She also said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been closely following the developments regarding Önder’s condition.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz expressed his support for Önder in a message shared on social media.
“I extend my best wishes to our Deputy Speaker and Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, and I wish him a swift recovery,” Yılmaz said.
Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş also shared a statement, saying, “I extend my best wishes to our Deputy Speaker Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who was hospitalized due to a medical emergency. We are closely monitoring his treatment process and wish him a full and speedy recovery.”
