UBP Condemns Saral’s Remarks as 'Unfortunate and Out of Line'

The National Unity Party (UBP) has issued a sharp condemnation of recent remarks made by Oktay Saral, a senior advisor to the President of Turkey, targeting Ünal Üstel, Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

UBP Secretary-General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu described Saral’s comments as “unfortunate and out of line,” asserting that they constitute a broader insult not only to Üstel but to the will of the Turkish Cypriot people and their deep-rooted ties with Turkey.
In a written statement, Hasipoğlu said:
“We strongly condemn the unfortunate and overstepping remarks made by Oktay Saral about our Prime Minister and Party Leader, Mr. Ünal Üstel.
The Turkish Cypriot people, since their struggle for existence, have united their destiny with that of Motherland Turkey, standing shoulder to shoulder in all times of hardship with a shared national spirit.
The baseless accusations directed at Prime Minister Üstel—who has shaped his political life around a profound love for the Motherland—are not merely personal attacks. They are clear disrespect toward the collective will of the Turkish Cypriot people and their enduring bond with Turkey.
Saral’s statements reflect neither the wisdom of statecraft nor the sensitivity befitting the historic relationship between the two peoples.
These remarks ignore the voice of the Turkish Cypriots and disregard the decades-long struggle fought together with Turkey.
Let it not be forgotten that relations between Turkey and the TRNC are not built on day-to-day political rhetoric, but on shared history, blood, and fate.
As the National Unity Party, we make it clear that these comments have caused not only disappointment but also serious indignation.
We will never turn a blind eye to baseless and undignified accusations against our people or our leaders.
We view these remarks as the result of political shortsightedness and a lack of diplomatic courtesy.
The bond between Turkey and the TRNC cannot be weakened by such irresponsible statements.
On the contrary, these moments only serve to strengthen our unity and deepen our connection.
Our relations with the government of the Republic of Turkey, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stand firm on the foundations of mutual respect, trust, and unwavering shared determination.
The Turkish Cypriot people will continue to stand against any attempt to question their heartfelt bond with Motherland Turkey and will protect their democratic will at all costs.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Üstel, safeguarding and elevating this spirit of unity remains our foremost responsibility.”
