Arıklı Slams Turkish Presidential Advisor Saral

Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı has sharply criticized Turkish Presidential Advisor Oktay Saral over remarks targeting the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), describing them as “unfortunate and inappropriate.”

Arıklı called on the Turkish President to take appropriate action regarding Saral, declaring, “I strongly condemn him on behalf of my party and myself.”
Saral’s controversial social media post—referring to TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel as “the Empty Minister of the TRNC” and claiming “Sadly, we still haven’t been able to rid Cyprus of its Greekness”—has sparked widespread outrage in the TRNC, prompting strong reactions from across the political spectrum.
Arıklı responded on social media, stating:
“I hope the President of the Republic [of Turkey] takes the necessary steps regarding this individual. His post was deeply unfortunate and inappropriate. I strongly condemn it on behalf of both my party and myself.”
The remarks by Saral, which were widely viewed as derogatory and insulting, have intensified tensions at a sensitive moment in Turkey–TRNC relations, with calls growing for an official response and accountability.
