Four Traffic Accidents Nationwide: Two Drivers Were Alcohol-Impaired

According to the police press office, between April 16 and 17, four accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers and carelessness resulted in injuries. Two of the injured were placed under observation in the hospital, and two drivers were arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing accidents. Investigations into the accidents are ongoing.

Alcohol-Impaired Driver Crashes into Cypress Tree: One Person Injured

On April 16, 2025, at approximately 6:00 AM, a traffic accident occurred on Beşparmaklar Street in Edremit, where a vehicle driven by İrem Güneytepe (F-26) with the license plate UF 219 was traveling south. As the driver approached a left-leaning bend, she lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into a cypress tree on the roadside.

As a result of the crash, the driver and passenger Yağmur Dağ (F-23) were taken to Girne Dr. Akçiçek Hospital. The driver was discharged after receiving initial treatment, while passenger Yağmur Dağ was transferred to Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital for a spinal injury diagnosis and placed under observation in the Neurosurgery department.

İrem Güneytepe, the driver, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the accident. An investigation is ongoing.

Motorcyclist Crashes into Embankment: Under Observation in Hospital

On April 16, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, a traffic accident occurred on the Incirli-Köprülü main road between kilometers 2 and 3, where a motorcycle ridden by Hamit Demir (M-64) with the license plate BN 396 lost control while heading north, veered off the road, and crashed into an embankment.

The injured driver was taken to Gazimağusa State Hospital. Fractures were detected in his clavicle and ribs, and Hamit Demir was placed under observation in the Surgical Department. An investigation is ongoing.

Pickup Truck Hits Pedestrian: 79-Year-Old Man Injured

On April 16, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, a traffic accident occurred on Dudu Ayer Street in Dipkarpaz, where a pickup truck driven by Serkan Çolak (M-48) with the license plate ME 609 was heading south. The truck veered onto the right side of the road and struck a pedestrian, Banayis Mitsoru (M-79), who was walking north at that moment.

Banayis Mitsoru, the pedestrian, was taken to Gazimağusa State Hospital for treatment. An investigation is ongoing.

Alcohol-Impaired Driver Crashes into Barriers

On April 17, 2025, at approximately 6:00 AM, another traffic accident occurred on the Girne-Tatlısu main road between kilometers 5 and 6, where a vehicle driven by Efe Gözükızıl (M-34) with the license plate NC 816 lost control while heading toward Tatlısu, veered off the road, and crashed into steel barriers.

No injuries were reported in the accident. However, the driver, Efe Gözükızıl, was arrested after it was determined that he had a blood alcohol content of 137 milligrams and was driving under the influence of alcohol. Investigations are ongoing.
