Harmancı: We Have Preserved Our Identity and We Will Continue to Do So
Mehmet Harmancı, Mayor of Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB), condemned the remarks made by Oktay Saral, Chief Advisor to the President of Turkey, stating that Saral had insulted a society that has written its own history of resistance. “We have preserved our identity and we will continue to do so; we have existed on this island and we will continue to exist,” Harmancı declared.
Posting on his personal social media account, Harmancı criticized the condescending tone of Saral’s comments, which have sparked widespread outrage.
His full statement read:
**“Keep insulting Turkish Cypriots if you must. Ünal Üstel may treat even your requests as orders, but through him, you attempt to demean a people who have written their own history of resistance.
We have preserved our identity and we will continue to do so; we have existed on this island and we will continue to exist.”**
