In a social media post, Saral referred to Üstel as the “Empty Minister” and accused him of failing to stand against “anti-headscarf” sentiment, adding, “We still haven’t saved Cyprus from becoming Greek.” The comments sparked widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum.

Colition partner Erhan Arıklı called the remarks “unfortunate and inappropriate,” urging Turkish President Erdoğan to take action. CTP leader Tufan Erhürman called the comments an insult to the people, saying no one has the right to speak in such a manner. TDP’s Zeki Çeler, despite political differences with Üstel, rejected the insult and invited Üstel to protest the remarks.

Parliament Speaker Ziya Öztürkler also condemned Saral’s words, calling them disrespectful to the will of the people.
