Search Resumes for Missing Tourist off S Cyprus Coast

Search teams on Wednesday resumed efforts at first light to locate a 35-year-old Polish tourist who went missing after renting a small boat off the coast of Paphos on Easter Tuesday.

The operation, coordinated by Cyprus’ search and rescue coordination centre (KSED), includes air, sea, and land patrols after the man’s unmanned inflatable boat was found adrift near Argaka, roughly 200 metres from shore.
According to Paphos Assistant Police Director Michalis Nikolaou, the tourist had set off alone from Latsi Harbour around 10.30am on Tuesday for a short trip along the coastline. By 4.30pm, bystanders spotted the empty vessel floating without a passenger, prompting an immediate police alert.
KSED activated the national “Nearchos” emergency plan, deploying two helicopters, from the police and National Guard, alongside a patrol boat from the port and marine police. Officers from Paphos police directorate are also combing the shoreline.
Overnight searches yielded no trace of the missing man, with efforts continuing intensively on Wednesday. Authorities have not yet commented on possible causes but are treating the case as a high-priority rescue mission.
