Üstel on İsias Trial: Those Who Neglected Their Duty Must Be Held Fully Accountable for the Champion Angels

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has emphasised that the Grand İsias Hotel case carries not only legal but also moral weight, stating that all public officials who neglected their duties must be held fully accountable. He expressed heartfelt support for the pursuit of justice on behalf of the "Champion Angels."

In a written statement, Üstel underlined the importance of the upcoming stage in the case concerning the collapse of the Grand İsias Hotel in Adıyaman, which claimed the lives of 72 people, including members of the Champion Angels school volleyball team.
He noted that the trial of public officials is significant not only in terms of justice but also in reflecting the conscience of society, adding that while he would not be able to attend in person, he stood in full solidarity.
Üstel’s statement reads as follows: “We have never forgotten our Champion Angels, who lost their lives in the disaster of the century on February 6, 2023. Since that day, our pain has come to represent not only loss, but also the relentless pursuit of justice.
The trial, which begins tomorrow and includes public officials as defendants, is of great significance. This is not merely a legal proceeding—it is a sacred struggle in which the voices of our society’s conscience are heard and our children’s names are honoured through justice.
‘All public officials who neglected their duties must be held fully accountable before the law. I stand with you every step of the way.’
Unfortunately, I will not be physically present at this important hearing. However, my heart is with you. I deeply support your perseverance, patience and determination.
I bow in respect before the memory of our Champion Angels and all those we lost. I reaffirm my solidarity with you until justice is fully served.”
