Karakaya: The Fight Will Continue Until Justice Is Served

Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, President of the Champion Angels Association, reiterated their determination to pursue justice in a statement made in Adıyaman regarding the Grand Isias Hotel trial. The legal battle continues for the children, teachers, guides, and families who lost their lives when the hotel collapsed during the earthquake on 6 February 2023.

“The hotel became a tomb that day,” said Karakaya, emphasizing the human cost of the tragedy. “They were the future of this country, our pride, our hope.”

Karakaya stressed that accountability should extend beyond the hotel owners and contractors to include public officials whose negligence contributed to the disaster. “The Isias Hotel is the result of dereliction of duty and a system that disregarded human lives for profit,” she stated. “We are here so that no one ever again says, ‘this is just how things are.’ Public officials who failed in their duties, signed off on incomplete documents, or turned a blind eye to irregularities must not go unpunished.”

Calling for public officials to be tried for “possible intent,” Karakaya underlined the need for justice to apply not only to the powerful but also to those who neglected their responsibilities. She also criticized the release of one of the defendants, Hasan Aslan, who has been free since 25 December, saying, “It reopens our wounds every single day.”

She concluded with a firm declaration:
“We are here. For justice, for truth, for our children. And once again, we cry out: ISIAS WAS MURDER! PUBLIC OFFICIALS ARE PART OF THIS CRIME! This fight will continue until justice is served. Because we made a promise to our angels!”
