According to Politis and other Greek Cypriot media outlets, Sizopulos submitted his resignation during a central committee meeting held yesterday. While rumours of his resignation had circulated for some time, his decision to step down before the upcoming parliamentary elections came as a surprise. Sizopulos had led the party for nearly a decade.

His departure is expected to pave the way for changes within the party, potentially impacting its strategy and internal balance ahead of the elections.

Fileleftheros, under the headline "Sizopulos Passes the Torch", reported that efforts to persuade him to withdraw his resignation during the meeting were unsuccessful. The central committee is now expected to set a date for a party congress, with July 1 under consideration.

Haravgi also covered the development, leading with the headline “Marinos Sizopulos Leaves EDEK Leadership.”
