Excessive Pesticide Levels Found in 5 Products During Food Inspection

During recent food inspections, excessive pesticide levels were detected in five products, both imported and local. Three imported products and two locally grown products were found to contain pesticides above the established limits.

Between April 18 and 24, samples from both imported and local products were analyzed at the State Laboratory and evaluated according to European Union pesticide limits.

According to the Agricultural Department, of the 27 samples taken from imported products, 24 were found to be free of pesticides above the limit, while three samples contained excessive pesticide levels. The stuffed peppers from SVS Tic. Ltd. Şti. and Halil Kasap Paz. Ltd. were destroyed at the request of the companies after the findings. A stuffed pepper from REE Tic. Cahide Kılıç was returned to its country of origin after being found to contain excessive pesticide levels.

Among local products, 22 out of 24 samples were found to be clean. The harvest of Valencia oranges from Alpay Kavaz, a resident of Doğancı village, and the red peppers from Yıldıray Dağlı, a resident of Famagusta, were halted until the next laboratory analysis, as both products contained pesticides above the limit.
