According to ANT1, the Government of Cyprus confirmed through Letymbiotis that Turkey proposed to open one of its ports to Cypriot-flagged ships. The report added that in exchange, Turkish businesspeople would be granted European Union (EU) visas.

This move is reportedly part of President Nikos Christodoulides’ broader efforts to ensure greater EU involvement in the Cyprus issue and to strategically leverage EU-Turkey relations.

Aim Is for Turkey to Fulfill Its Obligations

Speaking to Cyprus State Radio, Letymbiotis emphasized that the proposal aims for Turkey to fulfill its obligations under international law and to improve cooperation with Cyprus. Reports from the Greek press suggest the offer could cover approximately 1,100 Cypriot ships gaining access to Turkish ports.

Letymbiotis stressed that lifting restrictions on Cypriot ships would be part of Turkey's international obligations and that such a step would be an important development in advancing EU-Turkey relations.

No Official Statement Yet From Turkey

Meanwhile, Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant authorities have not yet confirmed or officially responded to these claims.
