Anastasiades arrived at the authority’s headquarters at around 8.25am, accompanied by his lawyer Achilles Emilianides, and is expected to return to testify further on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

He has denied all the allegations made in the book, and released his own book, The Slanderer, in response.

Speaking upon his exit from the building later on Monday, he described the day as “defining”.

“It is a defining day, which begins on my part, to dismantle populism, nihilism, malignant slander, and vindictive journalism. Beyond this, I have nothing else to say”.

The law surrounding the anti-corruption authority’s operation does not allow those who testify to provide information surrounding the content of their testimony, and as such, no further information on the matter is expected from Anastasiades.

Newspaper Kathimerini reported that the authority will issue its findings in June.
