Man Sentenced to 6 Months in Prison for Using Fake Insurance at Border Crossing

A Russian citizen, Satanislav Arkhangelskıı, was sentenced to six months in prison after using a fake vehicle insurance policy to enter and exit Cyprus through the Metehan Border Crossing in Nicosia.

The case against Arkhangelskıı, who was accused of "forging and circulating a fake policy," was concluded at the Nicosia Criminal Court. The court, presided over by Judge Füsun Cemaller, with Senior Judge Vedia Berkut Barkın and Judge Tutku Candaş, sentenced the defendant to six months in prison.
According to the court's ruling, on November 25, 2024, at 7:20 PM, the defendant presented a fake vehicle insurance policy for a car with the registration plate KYL 179 to the immigration officer at Metehan Border Crossing while attempting to enter the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) using a Russian passport. The court explained that the defendant forged the document and attempted to circulate it. The defendant then proceeded to cross to the south via the Derinya Crossing later that day.
The court also mentioned that Arkhangelskıı was arrested on January 27, 2025, when he attempted to enter the TRNC again at Metehan Border Crossing using a vehicle with the registration plate KSR 012. He was arrested under an existing arrest warrant and was taken to prison following the investigation.
Judge Barkın emphasized that the crimes of forgery and circulating forged documents are serious offenses punishable by up to ten years in prison. The judge stated that given the widespread nature of such crimes and their public impact, the defendant was sentenced to six months in prison unanimously.
