30 Suspects Face Arrest in Corruption Probe Targeting IBB

Thirty of the 48 suspects detained in a corruption investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) have been referred to court with a request for arrest, following operations conducted across three provinces.

The investigation, led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, involves serious charges including leading a criminal organization, membership in a criminal organization, bribery, embezzlement, aggravated fraud, unlawful acquisition of personal data, and rigging public tenders. Among the suspects is Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was dismissed from his position as mayor of Istanbul following his arrest.
After completing their statements at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, the 30 suspects were referred to a magistrate for potential arrest by 17 prosecutors from the Office for the Investigation of Organized Crime. The remaining 18 suspects were referred with a request for judicial control measures.
The magistrate has ruled for all 18 to be subjected to judicial control, including an international travel ban and a requirement to regularly report to authorities.
Proceedings for the 30 suspects facing arrest are still ongoing.
