She shared the threat on her personal social media account, explaining that she received a call last evening from a woman with a Turkish phone number, who claimed she wanted to "protect" Akın but warned that she would be killed if she didn’t comply. The caller allegedly said that three individuals had been sent to the island for the past 3-4 days to follow Akın and take action against her.

Akın, who did not take the threat seriously, stated that the conversation lasted 27 minutes and that she provided the police with a voice recording to file a formal complaint. She reported that the police assured her that they would take the necessary action and inform her of any updates.

Akın emphasized that she would not back down from her work in response to the threat. "I publicly declare that I will not step back in the face of these threats aimed at press freedom and the public's right to know the truth," she said.

The journalist had been publishing articles exposing state-mafia relations, particularly in interviews with Cemil Önal, who is reportedly the financial director of Halil Falyalı, and who resides in the Netherlands.
