Denktaş to Tatar: Who and Why Is Uncomfortable with the Name TRNC?
A- A A+

Denktaş expressed his dissatisfaction with Tatar’s proposal, stating that the issue of the name was thoroughly discussed during the establishment of the state and was unanimously accepted in the parliament. He argued that the name of the TRNC, which has been used for many years, reflects the geography (Northern Cyprus), the Turkish identity, and the republican form of governance, and it has been a matter of national consensus.

Denktaş’s post included the following remarks:

"Apparently, some people think that the names discussed during the founding phase of our state were never considered. Perhaps this topic was not even touched upon in the so-called conversations with Denktaş. Northern Cyprus is our geography. Turkish is our national identity. The Republic is our system of governance. This name was discussed and unanimously accepted in the parliament. WHO and WHY is uncomfortable with this name? This needs to be explained.”
