New Presidential and Parliament Complex in TRNC Inaugurated Today with Erdoğan's Visit

Following nearly three years of construction, the Presidential and Republic Assembly Complex in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is set to be officially inaugurated today.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is visiting the island for the opening ceremony and is expected to arrive at 12:30 p.m. During his brief visit, Erdoğan will attend the inauguration of the new complex and hold a meeting with TRNC President Ersin Tatar. He is also scheduled to participate in the TEKNOFEST-TRNC award ceremony at the former Ercan Airport before returning to Turkey.
New Presidential Building
The newly completed Presidential building spans 25,210 square meters and includes the President’s office, two conference halls with 600 seats, a reception hall for 400 guests, a delegation meeting room, 52 offices, 10 meeting rooms, a cafeteria and dining area, and parking for 109 vehicles. The current historic Presidential building will be converted into a museum.
New Republic Assembly
The new parliament building covers 20,010 square meters and houses the offices of the speaker and the prime minister, a 157-seat general assembly chamber, 25 parliamentary offices, a cabinet meeting room, a 135-seat conference hall, a 252-seat dining area, rooms for party meetings, a library, and 16 meeting rooms for various functions.
National Garden and Mosque
The National Garden surrounding the complex is under development, encompassing 452,428 square meters, of which 290,000 square meters will be green space. A mosque with a capacity for 2,252 worshippers is being constructed on a 5,661-square-meter site. The garden will also feature sports fields, tennis courts, a 1,000-seat amphitheater, walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, social facilities, parking for 1,675 vehicles, and a café.
Sustainability and Local Materials
Project supervisor and civil engineer Mehmet Sezer Coşkun stated that the buildings were designed to be environmentally friendly and energy-efficient. He highlighted the use of local “Cyprus stone” for the façades and Turkish “Marmara marble” for detailed finishes, symbolizing unity through the integration of Cypriot and Turkish elements. Coşkun also noted ongoing construction of the high court and national library, which form the final phase of the complex.
