Holguin Reportedly Set to Visit Cyprus on May 27–29
United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin is reportedly scheduled to visit Cyprus between May 27 and 29, according to Politis newspaper.
In a report titled “Three-Day Holguin Presence,” the paper cited sources claiming Holguin will be on the island during those three days.
According to the article, Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides confirmed to reporters during a public event yesterday that Holguin is expected to visit the island this month, although he did not provide specific dates.
Asked whether he had spoken with Holguin, Christodoulides confirmed he had, stating that as of today, she is formally assuming her duties. He added that they had discussed possible dates for meetings but that the announcement regarding the exact schedule would be made by Holguin herself.
Christodoulides also noted that they had prearranged dates in mind and reaffirmed that Holguin would be in Cyprus sometime in May.
Politis further recalled that an agreement to appoint a personal envoy was reached during an informal expanded meeting in Geneva held in March.
