KTÖS Criticizes Amendment to Teacher Exam Regulation

The Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union (KTÖS) has voiced strong opposition to the proposed amendment to the Teachers’ Exam Regulation, warning that it would harm the education system and diminish the value of the teaching profession.

KTÖS Secretary General Burak Maviş criticized Education Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu’s initiative, which is being presented to the public under the banners of "stability," "justice," and "improvement."
Maviş argued that the Ministry’s attempt to turn teaching into a competitive exam undermines the significance of long-established institutions such as the Atatürk Teacher Training Academy. He warned that such a move would ultimately lower the quality of education and erode the profession’s standing.
KTÖS maintains that the regulation change fails to address deeper issues in the education sector and instead promotes a narrow and damaging approach to recruitment and evaluation.
