Hasipoğlu: Greek Cypriot Actions Target TRNC Economy

Hasipoğlu: Greek Cypriot Actions Target TRNC Economy

Speaking during a broadcast on BRT, Hasipoğlu argued that the Greek Cypriot side is systematically targeting the TRNC’s economy and property regime by collecting information from the north and using it to initiate legal proceedings. “This issue should not be seen solely as a problem related to the construction sector,” he said. “Our economy, our property regime, and even our right to live are under attack.”

Hasipoğlu stated that the Greek Cypriot side is deliberately working to render the Immovable Property Commission ineffective and confirmed that he has brought the matter to the attention of the European Parliament during recent discussions.

While stressing that the TRNC handles property issues through legal mechanisms, Hasipoğlu accused the Greek Cypriot side of politicizing the matter and using legal tools as political weapons. He also rejected claims that the recent developments are tied to the TRNC’s two-state policy, as opposed to a federal solution model. “On what basis are they making these claims?” he asked. “Where are they getting these messages and information from?”

Hasipoğlu also directed criticism at the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), accusing them of blurring the line between politics and the law. He concluded by stating that necessary countermeasures are being evaluated and will be implemented soon.
