Tatar: Property-Related Arrests in South Cyprus Should Not Be Tied to Two-State Policy

President Ersin Tatar has rejected claims that recent arrests in South Cyprus over property issues are a consequence of the Turkish Cypriot side’s two-state policy, calling such assertions “misguided and insincere.”

Speaking in response to the detentions carried out by the Greek Cypriot Administration in recent days, Tatar condemned what he described as intensifying attacks on property rights, stating that the Turkish Cypriot people are fighting to stand on their own feet, to strengthen their economy, and to gain their rightful place in the international arena.
Tatar accused the Greek Cypriot leadership of systematically targeting Turkish Cypriots through these legal moves and reaffirmed that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has functioning institutions and status, and that the Turkish Cypriot side will continue its struggle on the international stage.
During a meeting with the Chairman of the National Struggle Foundation, Aziz Gülbahar, and the board of directors, Tatar reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to the two-state policy. He emphasized that no common ground had been reached with the Greek Cypriot side, making a return to the negotiation framework last seen in Crans-Montana out of the question.
Tatar stated that any future negotiations must be based on the principle of sovereign equality and a two-state solution. He expressed readiness to continue cooperation in areas that benefit both communities and reaffirmed that their efforts would move forward along this framework.
